Professor Marquez is currently collaborating with a sociologist, Dr. Isabel Araiza, on a research project that focuses on the planned integration of Corpus Christi Independent School District resulting from the Cisneros v Corpus Christi Independent School District (1970), the first case to extend the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas decision (1954) to Mexican Americans. One other project in progress is in collaboration with her long-time teaching partner, Professor Jennifer Bray, on the positive impact of intentional curricular integration in learning communities upon first-year student persistence.
When she is not teaching, Professor Marquez can be found on her husband's deep sea fishing boat and spaying and neutering the city's feral cat population.
