Originally from New York and Pennsylvania, Mrs. Cantu served six years active duty in the United States Army while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina prior to moving to Texas with her husband and son. She spent time in the 82nd Airborne Division and then in a military information support unit (4th POG). She completed two combat tours (9 months each) to Afghanistan, the first in 2005 and second in 2008. Her MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) was 45B and later she transferred her primary MOS to 37F which provided her an opportunity to attend and train at the John F. As an NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) in her company, Sergeant Cantu filled multiple roles to include leadership responsibilities as Product Development Detachment Team Leader, inventory accountability as Arms Room NCO, and administrative responsibilities in headquarters as the Company Training and Readiness NCO.

Mrs. Cantu received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2014 with a minor in Professional and Technical Writing and was hired as an Administrative Associate IV for the College of Science and Engineering Academic Advising Center. Later she joined the University College team as a Project Coordinator, serving multiple areas with administrative support while the college grew and developed. She also supported the First-Year Learning Community Program Coordinator with learning community schedule building for each term. Now an Administrative Coordinator, she continues to serve multiple areas of University College administratively, while also supporting the First-Year Learning Community Program with the schedule building process. Mrs. Cantu enjoys spending time with her family, piecing together three dimensional metal models, and being outdoors any chance she gets.
